This is the first post.

It feels like it's been too long since I've done a write up of any kind. To be honest, I put off making this post for a long time, since I've been worrying a lot about behind the scenes stuff. Categories and labels, making the blog look all spiffy, etc. I get caught up in this kind of over-detailing really easily, so a lot of the time projects I start end up in production hell for a long time. Case in point, I made this account three months ago, and I'm just now getting to the first post. But the first post is kind of nerve wracking, ya know? If you make the introductory post, but you don't have any content close after, then you've pretty much marked your blog for death. I actually don't have anything else after this for a bit, but at the same time, the blog looks really depressing just sitting around completely empty.

So I guess this is the part where I introduce myself and talk about what I'll be posting here. I go by Otastorian (otaku + historian), and my shtick is that I tell people that I'm an "otaku culture historian and sociologist." Basically it means I spend every waking second surrounded by 20 monitors, all of them blasting anime, videogame footage, and doujin music. While sitting in a pentagram of Animage issues, I become one with the spirit of Akihabara, and I begin to here Comiket whisper sweet, sweet love into my bloodstream. From this state of absolute, I project my thoughts onto the internet to this blog. ...or something like that.

Aside from my weird and totally legit rituals to the realm of 2D, I should probably talk about what I'll actually be posting. The specific purpose of this blog is to be a one stop shop for all information on otaku culture. I'll be bringing together all of the existing relevant research and data (as well as my own) to be the otaku culture guidebook for newcomers and experts alike. Everything from cultural traditions, to figures of important, to holy places, to the most influential pieces of media will be analyzed in these not so hallowed halls. I'm planning to start out with more well known concepts like doujinshi and Akihabara, but in time we will as delve deep into the history and culture as one can possibly go.

So that's all we got for now. Within the next month or so, the first few posts will begin rolling out, and assuming I can keep up with myself, we'll get a steady stream of content going. So look forward to it!
